Meeting Topics
Workshop: The MCGF will be unveiling new “how-to-do-it” toolkits for conducting an Energy Audit to save money and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and constructing a Green Purchasing program in your town to save money and reduce your impact on the environment. This is the first in a series of similar efforts to provide New Jersey towns the resources they need to become green. (See attached Agenda)
Business Meeting: The session will outline the process to be used to create a set of “criteria” defining what New Jersey municipalities need to do if they want to be recognized as “green” communities. The MCGF is working with the Sustainable Communities Working Group, composed of state and municipal leaders, as well as academic and business experts, to develop and make recommendations on the criteria. This group will also be charged with helping to create tools and incentives to assist municipalities in moving forward. We will be bringing you up to date on the progress of this effort, and soliciting your feedback.
Background:The NJ State League of Municipalities created the Mayors’ Committee for a Green Future (MCGF) with the mission to “Make New Jersey green, one municipality at a time.” Over 150 members from 88 municipalities have joined the Committee. The co-chairs of the MCGF are Highland Park’s Mayor Meryl Frank, and Maplewood’s Deputy Mayor for the Environment Fred Profeta. For more information contact him at frp713@aol.com
