'Tis the season, as they say, to make resolutions.

Like so many things in life, the making is easy. It’s the keeping that often comprises the hard part of the thing. But it’s only the keeping that really matters.

Last November, at our Business Meeting in Atlantic City, the League’s member municipalities, acting through their mayors, passed 18 resolutions. In so doing, they made League policy in several crucial areas. You can read those resolutions and reflect on that policy elsewhere in this issue.

  Having made the resolutions our own, we will keep working on them. But, unlike your normal New Year’s resolutions, except for one, we won’t be able to really make them happen on our own.

Seventeen of our resolutions call on state policy makers to take action.

In order to increase the likelihood of that happening, we need your help.

Please ask your elected representatives in Trenton—State Assembly Members, State Senator and Governor Corzine—to support our efforts to improve the laws and regulations that merit improvement.

By so doing, they can improve municipal administration and, in many cases, improve the lives of our fellow citizens.

But don’t stop there. Tell you fellow local elected officials about the League’s efforts. And tell your constituents what needs to be done. Enlist their help and encourage them to become more involved.

And remember, those 17 issues aren’t the only challenges we’ll face in the year ahead. So resolve to stay informed about and involved in the League’s efforts to resolve the problems that have faced dedicated public servants on the local level for some time, as well as those that will emerge in the future.
