Law Enforcement Personnel from Washington to Delaware and New Jersey attended this ground breaking workshop, hosted by the New Jersey State League of Municipalities.

On Tuesday, December 11, 2007, East Orange City Police Director, Jose M. Cordero directed this crime-fighting workshop, assisted by the East Orange Police Chief and deputy chiefs.  Cordero has been credited with substantial crime reduction in East Orange.  New Jersey State League of Municipalities’ President and Mayor of East Orange City, Robert L. Bowser, welcomed attendees and introduced new Attorney General, Anne Milgram.  Honorable Milgram told law enforcement personnel and officials, her top priority is to combat crime and gang activity in New Jersey.

Emerging Law Enforcement Technology, such as Gunshot Detection and video surveillance systems, coupled with the Law Enforcement Enterprise Dashboard (LEED), which provides Real-Time Information-led policing was the thrust of the workshop.  In addition, an overview of information-led and real-time policing strategies was discussed, as well as other exciting topics including Network-Centric Policing, an emerging policing paradigm. 

Joining the East Orange Police Department speakers was Burlington County Sheriff Jean E. Stanfield, who emphasized the importance on information sharing as an integral aspect to fighting gang activity.  She is head of the Police Chief Association’s Street Gang Committee and the Burlington County Gang Prevention Task Force.  Grant funding was another topic Sheriff Stanfield discussed.  Concluding the seminar was Tarik Hammadou, managing director of the Australian company, DigiSensory, a SMART technology based company that applies their software to the law enforcement and military fields for application.
